We found out about their habits, their fur, and their demeanors. As we walked our guide told us about the farm, the owners, and the alpaca. I would recommend wearing sneakers or boots as you are walking through a pasture and when we got there, the alpaca moved further back so we had to walk further to get to them.
We were able to pet some of them and we took tons of pictures. They like to be able to smell your hair and face, which helps with their level of acceptance of the fact that there is a stranger in their midst. They are very friendly, not aggressive at all. Not all of them are comfortable enough to come up to you, but they are working on getting them more comfortable around people. She brought food for us to use to feed the alpacas for a closer encounter. She took us to the pasture where the female alpacas were grazing.
Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We were looking for things to do on the trip and all agreed that this sounded like lots of fun. I had 3 friends in from out of state and we were heading to Watkins Glen for the weekend.
